Who
Are
We?
Trading
the wide open spaces and mountains of Wyoming
he explored as a boy for the wilderness
of Alaska, Dick Petersen began his
guiding career at Horsfeld in 1973. The
recent aquisition of this private guiding
concession has been a culmination of a
30 year love affair with Alaska, its wild
lands, people, and in particular, Horsfeld.
An
Alaskan in Spirit, Dick has traveled
the state by horse, dog sled, and foot.
He's paddled its rivers, hiked, climbed
and skied its mountains. His decades
of wilderness guiding are your assurance
of a safe, entertaining and memorable
trip.

Gretchen
Petersen, born in the Territory of
Alaska to pioneering parents, spent her
childhood in geologic field camps, native
villages, and frontier towns. She brings
to Wrangell Outfitters the easy competence
and warmth of a native Alaskan, along with
decadent baked goods from Bun on the Run,
the bakery owned and operated by Gretchen
and her sister for 16 years in Fairbanks.
Cash
Joyce, a born and raised Alaskan,
is a man of untold talents. His many
accomplishments include, alpinist,
carpenter, fisherman, boatman, ski,
wilderness and hunting guide, (and
don't tell anyone... mechanic!) "Cashus
the renaissance man" embodies
the skills of Alaskans past and present. His
wiley humor, wilderness skills and
easy competence make him a favorite
with everyone and a valued friend.
Soon to gain notoriety in a new hit
song, "Kasilof Cash" by
Alaska's own band, "The Whipsaws."
Mike
Speaks. Anyone in the adventure
travel world has more than likely
heard of "speaks"; from
his humble beginnings as an Alabama
forester, he now has three decades
of worldwide wilderness guiding to
draw from. Currently an active guide
for Alaska Discovery, Mountaintravel/Sobek,
freelance consultant, expedition
leader and photographer, Mike has
made his home near Denali Park for
many years. Traveling the world doing
exploratory trips and first descents
on rivers from Asia, Africa, South
America and Borneo, to Antarctica,
the Canadian Arctic and all over
Alaska, Mike's credentials are far
too numerous to list. His skills
as a mountaineer, photographer, writer,
musician, cook, amateur geologist
and naturalist serve to enhance his
knowledge of cultures and the natural
wonders of the world. With his easy-going,
downhome southern charm, Mike is
in demand as an expedition leader,
consultant and friend. We count ourselves
lucky to have him guide for Wrangell
Outfitters.
