alaska huntingWrangell Outfitters invites you to hunt on horseback in our exclusive permitted guide area in the largest national park in the United States, the Wrangell - St. Elias National Park and Preserve. From our base of operations at Horsfeld, we outfit our hunts to the many spike camps (tents and cabins) in the mountains, river valleys and glaciers of the Nutzotin Mountains, home to Dall's sheep, grizzly bear, moose, caribou, wolf and wolverine. Each season we take a limited number of clients into our vast exclusive permitted area. Our top-quality horses, equipment and fun-loving competent crew ensure successful hunting in one of Alaska's last unspoiled wildernesses.

Historic Horsfeld is a rustic and comfortable base camp with a central cookhouse, bathhouse, and tent cabins for sleeping. All hunts are guided on a two guides/one client ratio to maximize hunting time in the field. We have a satellite telephone for emergency purposes. All our employees are trained in emergency response and CPR and we are fully stocked in first ais supplies. With a full time cook, meals are generous, healthy, homestyle with plenty of fresh food and baked goods. Photography, bird hunting, fishing and relaxing round out your hunt with us. Registered guide Dick Petersen, with thirty years of experience in the area, will guide and host your hunt.

horseback hunts alaskaThe horses used on the hunts live in the area year-round. They provide a confident, comfortable mode of transportation in the wilderness, as well as a piece of living history. Using horses for hunting, while uncommon in most of the state, has been successful in this area since the Chisana Gold rush of 1913. Accessible only by air, Horsfeld is located 350 miles south of Fairbanks and 350 miles east of Anchorage, at the headwaters of the Tanana River on Beaver Creek.
Round-trip transportation from Fairbanks to Horsfeld is included. Flights to and from Alaska and accomodations can be booked for you upon request. We would be happy to suggest or arrange other activities while you're in Alaska... just ask us. Prices of the hunts are all inclusive once you are in Horsfeld. That includes guides, transportation, trophy care, food and accomodations. Tags and hunting licenses are available at Horsfeld. All of us; guides, cook, and wranglers are seasoned Alaskan outdoorsmen and women. We're dedicated to working hard so that your time with us is successful, entertaining and ultimately memorable. Looking forward to hearing from you.
